Tuscaloosa promotes local businesses through DATE Week
Tuscaloosa is hosting its first DATE Week to celebrate a variety of businesses in the community.

Tuscaloosa is hosting an event this week that is designed to act as a means to build-your-own-date, offering special promotions and discounts on diamonds, arrangements, tastes and entertainment throughout the week.
The event, dubbed Date week, continues through Friday.
Barrett Elder, the marketing and communications manager for Tuscaloosa’s Tourism and Sports Commission, said he hopes to make this a big annual event.
“We wanted to do something that would celebrate our local establishments around town,” Elder said. “We’d love for it to be an annual event. We’re kind of just trying to get our feet in the water.”
Over 30 local businesses are participating in the week-long event, including Hudson-Poole Fine Jewelers, Pat’s Florist and Gourmet Baskets, Animal Butter, Chuck’s Fish, Black Warrior Brewing Company and others.
Randy Howell and Duane Terpo from Pat’s Florist and Gourmet Baskets said they like the idea of DATE Week.
“I think it’s a great idea,” Howell said. “It takes a while for things like [DATE Week] to get off the ground.”
Terpo agreed and said that it would be likely for Pat’s to participate again if DATE Week returns. Pat’s is offering a 15 percent off sale for the week.
